Can someome help me out with a p.c problem?
Question by alpha_male: Can someome help me out with a p.c problem?
i have been trying to convert my old vhs tapes into dvd’s dics and then edit them on my pc after 4 days or trying i managed to do it by first, recording directly on dvd from video recorder by the way of a scart lead. Then playing the dvd movie into my pc through a tv/video capture card by the way of rca jack cable then saveing the captured movie onto my hard disk on pc. The software has converted saved the movie in wmv format. i tired to convert the wmv movies into mpg movies but for every minute of movie it took 5 mins to decode to mpg and it used nealry 10 mb of space. So is it safe to save the movies in wmv for a long period say 20 years + or should i persist and change the movies into mpg format which will take me forever as i do want to edit the movie later?? are there any other options i should go for that would make it easy for me?

The software that saves the file from the video input. Are there any options to change the Output format? fromWMV to MPG?
It would be better to save it in MPG than WMV and then convert it.
You can drop down the quality (bitrate etc) to make it all quicker and smaller on the disk (if its only VHS quality to start with, go for mid to low quality output)
