In your opinion, how does a book & or movie frighten/excite you?

Question by Addison =) P.Y.T.♥: In your opinion, how does a book & or movie frighten/excite you?
I’m working on a book that includes anything frightening. Lol. Yes,it’s a book about vampires. And before you go off talking about twilight,it is literally nothing like twilight. There is no romance in it. I like vampires because they can be crude bastards, lol. And no,in my book, they don’t sparkle in the sun {GAY}.
I haven’t thought out the entire plot, but it’s definitely a book that has a lot of action in it. And one day,I want to make it into a movie. Anyways,I won’t tell what the plot is,but I’m asking, when you read a book,or watch a movie, what gets your blood pumping? Lol. I know for a lot of people it’s action, but any thing I could try? I find myself being a horrible writer, and obviously want to improve. I’m horrible at describing things. But I guess I’ll paste a little snippet of the book. Please, tell me what you think:

Chloe took my hand as we slowly ventured around underground. The inside was terribly medieval. The temperature around you was warm, but every corner you turned,it frightened you..because you never knew what was waiting for you. I trusted Chloe with my life, but I wanted Xander back. I wasn’t even supposed to be here, but following them was my choice. I wanted to try and help, any would I could. Even if it meant risking my life for them. Sure,it was absurd and shocking, but Xander was so much to me and more. Every time I see him,I smile, and every time I talk to him,I feel the way I did when I first got to know him. Hoping he would smile back at me,or even ask me out to lunch. But I was being delirious. It’s not at all normal to be comfortable around a vampire, neither safe. Being a vampire, according to Wilson,is a curse. This was probably the last straw,I didn’t need to be around them, humans are frightened of vampires. Or maybe I was just braver than everybody? Whatever it was,it had a meaning behind it.

“Shhh.” Chloe’s voice echoed. I heard people whispering. Chloe let go of my arm and walked into the dark hallway, heading to where the voices rose. I heard a loud crack, then the breaking of a glass object. It startled me,especially since it sounded so close. I swallowed my pride, ignoring the rules and tip toed after Chloe. I peaked around the corner, watching her walk into this candle lit room. But more importantly,I saw Xander. The room I was walking into had four large black coffins layed out, like they were being prepared for someone. I was scared to move any farther, but I decided to risk the silence…

So what do you think? Also, the whole ‘coffin’ thing, doesn’t have to do with vampires. Lol. In my story, vampires don’t sleep in coffins, they don’t sleep whatsoever, anyways.
Thanx
