How do you make 3d animation?

Question by wabbit sniper: How do you make 3d animation?
Any programs (preferably free) would be greatly appreciated.

Here’s the story: I was playing Call of Duty one day (great game) and I finished a level and there’s a movie after each campaign of things that just happened, like the battle of the bulge, red square, stalingrad, etc.

(Sorry for those of you who don’t know what Call of Duty is, it’s a first person shooter game set in World War 2.)

And I was watching those movies and I thought to myself, hey, why can’t I make a movie like that? After all, I’ve got this whole vacation left to myself. So I’d like to make some sort of 3d animation on World War 2 or such, but I don’t know of any programs or software that are easy to use and have really nice results, e.g. realistic faces, realistic explosions, etc.

So can anyone help me out here please? Thank you.
