Do you think our life circumstances determine our decisions?
Question by Crystal C: Do you think our life circumstances determine our decisions?
Anyone who thinks that offenders get the same choices as everyone else without viewing people case by case may be short-sigthed. Although no matter what our circumstance, we can always “choose” to take the high road but that is easier said than done. It’s easy to say what one should do until you’re put in their situation. If you push someone on a banana peeling no matter they’re background they will probably slip. Did we not get anything besides a laugh from the Eddie Murphy/Nick Nolte movie “Trading Places”? I ask you to imagine being raped, molested or growing up among drug infestation without proper parental guidance. I’d like to note your decision making process under these circumstances and how many alternatives you’re able to access.

I think that every situation and every person is different. Some people are in a better position and therefore it might be a bit easier for them to take the high road.
There are a lot of children that grow up in these areas that are prone to crime and they have difficulty staying out of it as they grow up. They know it’s not right but at the same time it’s all they’ve known throughout their life.
I don’t believe it’s a viable excuse for commiting a crime. If a crime is commited I don’t care what area a person grew up in or how much money they have. A crime is a crime and everyone should do the time, regardless of the living environment.
