AVCHD compatible movie software?

Question by : AVCHD compatible movie software?
I’ve been using Windows Movie Maker my whole life and make recurring videos on youtube. However, I recently got a new camera (Panasonic Sony HD) and found out that the new type of file that most HD cameras use is AVCHD. However, Windows Movie Maker is not compatible with those type of files. (By the way, I’m not very computer savy, so if I said something wrong, sorry about that)
Does anyone know a cheaper (Like under 75 dollars) movie software similar to Windows Movie Maker that is complatible with AVCHD files?
ps I tried a free demo of Vegas Pro but it gets really choppy when using AVCHD files. Thanks!
pss I also did try downloading a converter, however, I would just really prefer if there were any software programs similar to Movie Maker that I could just buy instead of going through the process of converting (I make lots of videos)
