Me and my friend are planning on making a movie with our friends using a cannon video camera, and we were concerned about the sound quality of our voices, because usually when filming with cheap home video cameras there is alot of background noise and its hard to hear people talking, I know in real movie production they use those big microphones on a stick i was wondering if there are any cheap tricks like that can make our sound quality better for people voices when talking without buying a new camera

Not unless your camera has an external mic jack. If it does you can buy a boom mic or directional mic that will pick up focused sound from that area only.
