With hits like the first ever billion dollar making, James Bond film, Skyfall & The Amazing Spider-Man, Sony became the top grossing studio of 2012. So does the studio have what it takes to repeat it all in 2013? The first potential moneymaker for the studio will be the horror film, Evil Dead, on April 12th. A remake of Sam Raimi’s 1981 horror classic finds five friends, in a remote cabin, who unwittingly summon a demon. Newcomer Federico Alvarez takes over directing duties from Raimi, who is on board as producer along with original star Bruce Campbell. On June 7th, we’ll see Will Smith and son Jaden paired once again in the sci-fi film, After Earth, from director M. Night Shamalan about a teenager and his father who crash land on Earth, a thousand years after a cataclysmic event forced humanity to leave the planet that is now overrun by man eating animals and an unstoppable alien creature. The end of the world is played out to comedic effect on June 14th with This is the End starring James Franco, Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen and Emma Watson among others. The stars play versions of themselves trying to survive as Los Angeles is devastated by strange and catastrophic events. Channing Tatum plays a DC police officer trying to save the president, played by Jamie Foxx in the Die Hard meets Air Force One action thriller White House Down on June 28th.
