I write many original spec scripts but should I just start writing adaptations of novels, video games, comics etc. I never ever see anyone discussing the writing of adaptations until it is already written.

No you should continue to write original scripts.
Adaptations is a real problem in american cinema, it seems that nobody is able to have an idea on his own.
So try to change it!
