Q&A: Why the Animosity for John Cena.?

Question by Gohan Reborn: Why the Animosity for John Cena.?
Ok. Before I get into this let me say I do NOT like John Cena. I just don’t. However on pretty much any site where wrestling fans can voice their opinion they HATE Cena. Below is my debate defending him and the Most popular reasons haters use.

He only knows 4 or 5 Moves – Ok. He is not the greatest in-ring wrestler in the world. We got that. 4 or 5 moves is a bit of an exaggeration, I would go along and say he has 7 or 8 moves that he uses on a frequent basis.

He gets pushed too often – I’ll agree here. I personally like him mid carding at PPV’s. Had he not been injured I’m sure we woulda seen Orton and Priceless vs. Cryme Tyme and Cena. His matches are just…more enjoyable knowing he won’t be champ if he wins.

Only little kids and guy-obsessed women like him! – John Cena I think is a perfect Role Model. I am not referring to what he is scripted to say and react to. He is a hard worker, promotes the WWE wherever he goes, does movies, music. Why shouldn’t hard work be rewarded. Isn’t that a moral we want to set upon the younger ones? And as for the women liking him, well we can’t do anything about that. There are a ton of women with crushes on the other male wrestlers. Deal with it. Just like most men here will have a crush on a female wrestler based on looks, neglecting her in-ring ability.

His mic skills suck – His mic skills do not suck -_-. I hate when people say this. Now does he have as good mic skills as HBK, Orton, HHH or even Mr. Kennedy? No. But he sells what he says well.

He held the title too long – Another thing I dislike hearing. He hasn’t held the title in one year. Why are people bringing this up still? It already has been a year since he held Main Event Gold. When he was champ he was the poster boy for the WWE. Whether you like it or not, he brought tons of new fans single-handedly. Once he did that, and they squeezed all of the promotions out of him, he hasn’t been champ since.

The fact of the matter is Cena is money. Why is he money, because he does have a huge fan base, and frankly should be a role model for the kids. Any superstar that is overly popular is going to have others hate him just for that and start piling up reasons. I don’t like him, but I feel that if other’s don’t like him it should be a valid reason.

Don’t give me crap, saying he’s a horrible wrestler blah blah. We’ve established he’s not the best. But this isn’t Olympic style Wrestling. This is Sports ENTERTAINMENT.
You don’t neccesarily need to like a guy to find him entertaining. I hate Jericho and his new gimmick. He’s entertaining though. Cena is decent decent all around, is looked up to by children, and has had interesting rivalries.
Is there a need for insulting?

This wasn’t an essay. This is called being at work with nothing to do and getting tired of reading anti-Cena comments rolled up into one.
To Paul –

You don’t neccesarily have to like something to be able to defend it properly. I despise the New York Yankees. Yet I can defend them just as well as I’m defending Cena.

Ok, he was built up as Superman. Before. Why do you hate him now. He’s no longer superman.

Clean losses? I might be mistaken but wasn’t HBK’s win in London a clean victory? I am drawing a blank on clean wins, didn’t HHH defend his title cleanly? I do see your point however that is a rarity he loses cleanly. And even during BATISTA’s (His name is Batista) victory they tried to sell Batista as ONLY being 3 seconds better. I thought that was not giving enough credit to Batista and too much to Cena.
Sigh. To Paul again. – Is it not possible to be able to simply defend something and find the good things in something or someone without liking them? Jeez, I don’t like Cena. Most of his matches I do not want him to win depending on his opponent. And no I do not want to see him with a major title anytime soon.

I don’t understand. You, yourself mention the lost to Batista was his first clean loss in the past 3 years. That was a non-title match. So was the HBK one, but you’re just complaining that HBK didn’t win the title match? And the loss vs. HHH was for the title, so that defys that logic. I will admit he did have a LOT of matches during his one year tenure and had extremly rare clean losses. As far as I remember, as a few people have mentioned here that’s creative’s decision and not his.
