Anyone know anything about movie script contracts?
Question by mikeyditka: Anyone know anything about movie script contracts?
I was offered a contract for writing a movie script, the contract said if movie was produced by the production company (not sold to a studio) I would get a percentage of net profits? Net profits is dicey. Is this how it’s normally done? If not, what would be standard?

This really tricky and depends on many factors.
So, you have an offer to write a script. A spec or already a shooting script? That depends on the contract I guess.
Percentage from the net profits can be good and can be bad as well. If the production company is successful with the movie, you could get good income if not..oh, well, then nothing.
I’d say you should speak to your agent and a lawyer about the contract. Never sign something you’re not sure of.
