Architecture In Helsinki – The owls go
This is a music video of Architecture In Helsinki’s The Owls Go. I chose to do a video of this song first of all because I like their music, but also because the videos I had seen of their music were all very different and abstract, which I liked. I was inspired to do my own video of one of their songs that did not yet have a video. The rhythm of The Owls Go caught my attention. It has a lot of instruments that I hadn’t heard before. When I listened to this song it made me remember the carefree joys of my childhood. Now that I am grown up I have so many responsibilities and feel weighted down. And so that’s why I chose this song. The lyrics of this song are very ambiguous; listeners can interpret them in different ways depending on their experience. Although the song touches on heartbreak, the sound of it evokes the simplicity of childhood. I experimented a lot making this music video; I used different techniques such as paper cut, stop motion animation and frame by frame drawing. Finally, I worked in Illustration program to add different textures to the characters and background. I played around with the characters, the rhythm and sound to reflect the feeling of the music, the sound of ‘bubbles’, the happiness of childhood. This video was my undergraduate thesis project. I completed it in four months using Adobe After Effect and Adobe Illustration programs.
