Question by rodkaragui: Can you got to film school with never actually having any experince using equipment or making a short movie?
Ime not talking about a prestigious program, just regular films schools in community colleges and state universities. Ime 16 and i want to be a director/writer for films. My problem is I wont have access to real equipment till ime 18. So far ime just reading books on directing, on writing and making home videos and coming up with movie ideas oh and watching many films.

Write some scripts for movies. Download a free screen-formatting program like celtx and write up some scripts. This way if they ask for a portfolio, at least you’ll have something. Try to draw up a story board as if you were to film a movie. That way they’ll know you’re capable at least.
Try to find some equipment. All you really need is a camera. Any camera that you can upload things onto the computer with. With a little creativity, and windows movie maker, it’s not the perfect solution, but you can make some pretty decent stuff if you’re patient enough. If you do have access to a camera (borrowing, etc.) even a low end camera, and need some help getting a good looking short film together, you can email me and I’ll walk you through the process step by step. You will likely need something for a film portfolio, state university or not. But scripts and storyboards are better than nothing!
