You Wouldn’t Like Me When I’m Hungry

Day 167 of 365 (Year Two)
Today is Father’s Day, which means it is MY DAY! Woo hoo! A day all for me! Well, as much as I can make it a day all for me. We had plans with Kathy’s parents for dinner to celebrate Father’s Day and I had to spend some time with the reason that I get to celebrate the day.
The one thing I wanted to do was see The Incredible Hulk. Kathy’s parents picked up Savanah early in the morning so that Kathy and I were able to go see it and still have time to get to their place for dinner.
The movie was great. I loved it, maybe even a bit more than Ironman. The people in the theater, however, were another story.
I love seeing movies on the big screen. There is no better way to see a movie. The drawback of seeing movies in the theater is that they are open to the public. There is no license required or test to pass. Anyone who ponies up the money can get in. This means that the guy bringing his 3 year old to a movie that he shouldn’t be in can get in. It also means that the woman with the infant can get in and the kids who don’t understand what "inside voice" means can too. Even worse, it means that Mr. can’t disconnect from the outside world for two fracking hours so I’ll leave my cell phone on and answer it when it rings, even if it means I’ll piss off a theater full of paying customers can also get in.
If I hadn’t had people in my way I would have thrown my cup at him. My buddy Mike was with us and he’s never had an issue speaking up and loudly asked the guy to HANG UP THE PHONE! Nothing like public humiliation to teach a guy a lesson. I still wanted to throw my cup at him though.
I really don’t get why people think this kind of behavior is acceptable. The problem, I guess, is that they continue to get away with it. As much a pain as these people are, it is a pain in the ass to have to get up and leave a movie you paid for just to track down a person to complain to. By the time you do that, you’ve missed what always turns out to be the best part of the flick. I don’t even like getting up to use the facilities when I’m in a movie and that takes a lot less time than tracking down an usher or a manager.
Whatever the reason, these people really need to be stopped. What I’d like to see, even though it is illegal in the US is for theaters to install cell phone dampers. There are so many buildings where getting a signal in near impossible I wonder why they don’t build theaters that way.
If you need to use your cell phone, get up and leave. Yeah, you paid just as much as we did, but that doesn’t give you the right to ruin the movie for the rest of us.
Mr. can’t disconnect from the outside world for two fracking hours so I’ll leave my cell phone on and answer it when it rings better watch out. Next time he answers his phone. . . . BART SMASH!
