IGN placed him third in its “Top 25 Final Fantasy Characters” feature. He had the same rank in IGN’s “Final Fantasy VII: Top 10 Characters”. GameCritics leveled criticism against the character, stating that, while Final Fantasy VII had “some of the most complex characters ever created, by video game standards,” the character was nevertheless “paper-thin” with “childish motivations” when compared to characters from “Citizen Kane or the complexities of characters
