Electroplankton Review (DS/DSiWare)
Electroplankton is less of a game than it is a toybox. It lacks any objectives or goals, and there is no way to “win.” Instead, you’re invited to select one of 10 electroplankton and interact with them using the touch screen and even the microphone to dynamically create new audio/visual experiences. As a toybox, the experience is unique each time and there is no way to save your compositions. For some, this may be an annoyance, but I personally love how I can create different sounds each time I turn Electroplankton on. Some of the electroplankton are more fun than others (my personal favorites are Luminaria and Hanenbow), but the product as a whole is absolutely different and wonderful. If you’re looking for something a bit eclectic, or if you’re a creative person, Electroplankton on the DS is a piece of software you shouldn’t miss. Unfortunately, Electroplankton was only available for a short time on Nintendo’s site, and never at retail, making it something of a collector’s item. Expect to pay about on eBay for a copy. If you have a DSi, though, you can download each electroplankton individually on DSiWare for each ( total), which is a fantastic deal. Electroplankton was reviewed using the DS version.
