Film Story/Plot Writing?

Question by Tim: Film Story/Plot Writing?
Hey. I’m not experienced in film screenwriting, but I’m planning to write a screenplay that obviously, I want to sell. But in order to sell it, I know that I have to write a story, the plot of the the movie. ( Every movie as I can see on IMDb has story AND screenplay, but not only script.)

So I want to know what a film story actually is? Should it contain dialogue, or only narration? And in what way should I write the story? A scriptment or a treatment or something else? I know about the screenplay but about not the STORY.

It should be sth like this:
http://www.movieoutline.com/articles/sample_treatment.html
or this:
http://www.scifiscripts.com/scripts/Terminator_Treatment.txt
or sth else?

Thanks.

I’ve only begun to delve in script-writing myself (not experienced either) and have taken whole copies off the internet to use for a study guide in developing my own for “The Starchild”. (A book I’ve finished and will soon be published–if my luck holds out over the next couple of years.)

But it’s been awhile since I’ve done anything with it.

The way I’ve written it–so far–is nearly identical to the 1,250-page book. (Though I’ve got only 80 pages completed on the script.)

If I may…?

My experience with writing full novels and stories always has a mix of prose and dialogue. One cannot exist without the other.

It’s my initial belief that screenplays should also contain the same: It should follow the book–that is, if you want it to mirror what you’re creating.

Most screenplays don’t–because of time and budget constraints.
