Question by Mark: Have you noticed that our society has stopped making useful products or improving products?
For example, no one will deny that someone who was born in 1890 saw incredible changes during the first 30 years of his/her life – cars, planes, widespread electricity, light bulbs, movies, telephone etc. A complete change in society.
Similarly, the 30 years from 1955 to 1985 saw vast improvements in everything that was invented earlier plus the computer and space flight on top of it.
But the last 40 years have given us nothing except gadgets. Yes, computers are ten times better, but so what? No one uses 1/1000000th of the power of their PC. The software just hogs it all and you waste your life away playing games or spending your whole lives editing videos when you should be LIVING your life, not REHASHING IT and PHOTOSHOPPING IT.
Our roads still crumble 4 years after they’re built. Our cars get worse mileage than they did in the early 90s. They should be running on piss or weeds by now.
Our home appliances – dishwashers, clothes washer, dryers – they still take just as long, are just as noisy, and the ones that claim to be more economical actually leave filthy germs growing in the drum (i.e., they don’t work as well as your grandmother’s did).
Electricity is still generated the same way it was 100 years ago. Cell phones get HORRIBLE reception and people tolerate it just because it’s convenient.
If you think a better computer and a convenient phone and a flat TV is progress, i guess that’s your prerogative. I think we’re going backwards, mostly thanks to environmentalism, globalism, etc. And ironically, our planet is getting dirtier because china craps on environmental laws, and your clothes are covered with germs, your toilets don’t flush, your cars look nice and have GPS but are less efficient than a 1990 model. Your phones don’t work, and kill more people than drunk drivers, but hey, it’s got a camera on it. Real progress.
oops, typo. the last 20 years we’ve stopped making useful products
Anyways, the advances in space technology are not that impressive, considering we’ve been to venus, mercury, mars, the moon 40 years ago. The mars missions of the last 10 years are just more of the same. NASA has become a tool of the political left and a social experiment in affirmative action and other nonsense.
A real improvement in a dishwasher would be clean dishes in 2 minutes and/or silent. My new dishwasher takes an hour and is louder than a friggin semi truck.

Good observations. Seems life is more complacent than competitive. Oh, well, I’ll be dead in 20 years. Just be honest and helpful.
