how to I get into Super 8 film making?
Question by James B: how to I get into Super 8 film making?
I’ve made a few movies on my canon gl2 camera for my church and we’re planning another one. I use adobe cs5 production premium. The next movie we make is going to be very Twilight Zone(ish) and I want it to have the feel of an old teleplay or twilight zone episode. I’m thinking of shooting on super 8 but I’m hesitant because I’ve never shot using film. What do I need to buy to get started? Whats the best HQ super 8 camera that will give me the look and feel that I’m looking for? Can I record sound separately or is the camera too loud? Should I use super 8 for the hole film or will it bug the audience? How much does film cost? Where do I buy super 8 film cartridges? Where should I buy the camera?
Anyway, we want to start shooting next winter so If I get one now I’ll have all summer to practice. I was also thinking of shooting with my gl2 and super 8 at the same time and using wireless mics recording sound separately.
Please help me!

Forget using Super 8. Oh you can find it but have you thought how you are going to edit it? They used to make a splicing machine to do it with. Are you prepared to spend money on a piece of machinery used once?
And besides do you know what Super 8 looks like? Have you ever seen a Super 8 film? It looks like a film that somebody shot that couldn’t afford a real camera. Super 8 was just a technology that was supposed to bring movie making to the middle class. It was never an artistic medium.
By the way I still own a Canon film camera, which I take black and white photos with and a quarter of my Dvds are old B&W films. But I own 2 other digital cameras.
If you have CS5 you should be able to manipulate anything you shoot to the desired effect you wish to impress on your audience.
Edit:There are quite a few websites concerning super 8 and I don’t see any use for me to google them and list them. I would suggest you go to some super 8 forums and ask them questions.
