It is basically craigslist, except it will be to sell books at our school. I need to know what skills, scripting languages, database, etc., as well as what I need to do for it.
Please only answer if you know something about web development.

I know that there are a billion ways to go about this, but I need to keep it simple.

Since it is a school project, learning new things about web development is a good thing.
I never said I needed a replica of craigslist, I am doing a school project that is a simple ad site targeted at books. I already know Javascript, HTML, and a little Flash.
