Question by Eddie Cacciatore, Private Eye: If making a documentary, is it legal to use a short clip from another movie without permission?
I notice a lot of documentaries use short clips from TV and other movies. Does the filmmaker need to get permission to do so from each film company? Sometimes the clips are from the 50s and 60s. How hard would that be to get permissions?

i would say yes as long as it is properly attributed to the source. ill see replays of news screwups played on another network, but they always say where it came from and dont black out the logo on the original network when replayed.
