Question by tupalov_1: Is it legal to make and give away a tool to pull information off the Internet?
I am cataloging my DVD collection for personal use and typically go to Blockbuster or another website to copy and paste the plot summary and DVD box image. I wrote a small application to go to the site for me and gather this data automatically (mostly) so I didn’t have to cut and paste. I am not selling the information or putting the information in a commercial application, merely including the tool to help gather the data. Will the movie police break down my door?

Since that information is free and available to all, how would it be illegal?

The program does the same as you do. So the program would only be illegal if copy pasting that info by hand would also be illegal.

It’s legal, and I would like to use such a program.
