I’m an IT Professional. Although I deal mainly with server systems, every now and then one of my non-technical friends talks me into fixing their home computer. Most of the time I’ll make a backup of all their personal folders (Desktop, My Documents, etc.) to my computer or an external drive, reformat, and reinstall Windows. Then I notice that I’ve got a huge messy folder containing various pictures, music, movies, etc.
I just want to know if anyone has ever come across a super sweet app (preferably free) that will sort through a folder, determine file types, read meta data, then sort files out for ya automatically.

You could use the search function in windows. By just typing the extension of a file it will show you all files in that criteria I.e. Typing in .jpeg You would get all pictures in jpeg format.
But to answer your question I have never seen such a program. Probably could make a lot of money with it though.
