Zeitgeist: The Movie

An all-you-can-eat buffet of conspiracy theories. Given the success of the 9/11 videos, with Loose Change being the most down-loaded video on the net, there is now an attempt to explain the financial crisis as a similar attempt by the government to create a manufactured crisis in order to further its agenda. This conspiracy goes by the name of New World Order and proponents claim that political leaders of the world are in on it and that they do the bidding of central banks.
This series (there are three parts) attempts to persuade by opening with a whopper of a conspiracy story doubting the existence of Jesus Christ. The argument is constructed first by demonstrating that the story of Christ is actually plagiarized from the myth of the Egyptian sun god Horace. This astrological myth tracks the journey of the sun, thus is a metaphorical life story that actually describes the movement of the sun in relation to the stars. The 12 apostles are the 12 signs of the Zodiac or constellations. The 3 kings are the three stars in Orion’s belt that line up with the brightest star in the sky on December 25th and make a straight line pointing to the spot where the sun will rise, marking the winter solstice and so on. The film makes much of the word Sun sounding so much like the word Son, but this only works for English speakers.
While I enjoyed the astrological correlations, as a student of paganism I already knew that Christianity stole most of the high holy days from pagan holidays in order to be more easily accepted by the population. The description in the bible of flowering plants at the time of Christ’s birth indicate the season to be Spring and this has not discounted the existence of Jesus Christ by itself.
In order to denounce the existence of Jesus Christ, the film points out that three of his contemporaries, did not mention him. Wickipedia says there’s no reason these writers would be expected to mention him and besides one of them did twice. The film claims that the Jesus Christ story was created by The Roman Empire to control the population by creating an all punishing god that made bad things happen if you didn’t tow the line.
The film also notes that there is a precedence in the bible for end of the world stories being related to the transition from one Zodiac house to another. But here again this relies on a population interpreting the end of one Zodiac sign and beginning of another as a story of the end of the world. If so I’m glad that this end-of-the-world fever is just about the "Dawning of the Age of Aquarius".
This bible conspiracy story is supposed to pave the way for the next two parts, but there are so many holes in it that most conspiracy enthusiasts I come across never mention it.
In part two, all usual bases covered for 9/11 story. Part three is the "conspiracy" story of the creation of a central bank in the U.S. This was covered in book The Creature from Jekyll Island in similar fashion. This secrecy is supposed to be proof that this was a conspiracy to fool the public into allowing bankers to control financial policy much like they seem to be doing today. Nothing is mentioned of the political struggle between moneyed elite and social interests. The film’s perspective is an all or nothing view that sees the moneyed elite operating in a constant collaboration to fleece the common man. This may be how it feels, but it also implies that all our systems were put in place as instruments for fleecing of the public rather than as political constructs to establish policy for running society which happens to be disproportionately under the influence of the wealthy.
Because people understand so little about how our financial system works, let alone the evolution of banking systems as a system created through trial an error, this part of the film is what is being spread around as another "truth" about devious control of our lives. Financial crisis such as bank runs and stock market panics are attributed to the manipulations of these all powerful elite in order to change public policy. The film presents one man’s conversation with Rockefeller as proof of the intention of said elite to create a global central bank and a single, bank-controlled government that would then control us all. And that they would do this by continuing to frighten us with violent events like 9/11 and the Madrid bombings.
The film claims that the devious plan is already partially in place since Bush W. signed into agreement the North American Union, thus creating a borderless American continent that makes obsolete, national constitutions of Canada, US and Mexico, in order to further enhance opportunities for the investment class. Clips of Lou Dobbs discussing said Union. Wickipedia says that this is a theoretical concept that has not been implemented in any part. So here the film actually lies. Nothing is mentioned of NAFTA which is already in place. Nor of capitalism which is at least as responsible for setting up said system for fleecing the world and is the basis of the thinking behind the policies.
The final piece of the plan is to get everybody microchipped and tie their access to their money through the microchip. So if the government doesn’t like what you’re doing they can cut you off. This is what gets conspiracy theorists running around shouting the sky is falling, New World Order is going to rob you of all your civil rights. And well it might, but with such easy access to this video I guess they’ll have to skip the microchipping part and just spray nano particles down for you to breath in so your whereabouts can be traced and control implemented.
We got this film from someone at Catherine’s work and watched it with a willingness to consider it as we did the 9/11 videos, but there were too many nagging intellectual discrepancies and the projection of what would happen in the future is too simplistic and given to anti-government sentiments of a certain anti-social, paranoia. The film is really only worth digesting to arm oneself against those who mention this whole New World Order thing. This has already happened to me twice.
