‘Scream’ franchise has a horrific and profitable history
Like a reluctant prom date, it took some wooing to get Wes Craven to make “Scream” (originally called “Scary Movie,” a title later used for a spoof). The director considered the script ironic but initially thought it was “so violent and so much back where I had started, that I felt I’d screw up my karma if I did it.”
