I dont know much about making movies. I know I will need a video camera and I want a sd card one. Will I need any editing software? And if so what is a good one? Any cam suggestions as well?

I have the canon FS100 flash drive camcorder, not the top of the line but I like it. It came with some software but unfortunately I’m running Vista 64bit and it isn’t compatible. I have been using pinnacle studio 11 ultimate for a few years and it works well for me.
The nice thing about flash drive camcorders is they use sd cards (I got a 16G and 2- 8G cards) and they can either be downloaded with the USB cord or a card reader.
If you get some good editing software you will avoid any problems with converting video file types. You will have problems if you rely on Windows Movie Maker. WMM does not support all video file types.
With any good eiting sofware you can add music, add transitions and menus and titles. If you have more that one child, you could do a whole section on each one since you can add your videos to the timeline however you choose. One you learn your editing software you will be more creative. Always use the Help section in any program.
