Online Business: Your Website is Your Office

It’s true! If you want to be a successful online businessman you should treat your website as it was your offline office. And now think: What exactly does he mean by that? What would I do if I had a real office?

 

Imagine that you want to take some offers for some things you want to buy and you visit 2 companies. You go to the first company’s manager’s office and his office is a mess. An old table with a large old computer on it, papers all over the place, old destroyed chairs, dirty windows etc. Then you visit the second company’s manager’s office and his office is a state of the art! Trendy furniture, a nice high-tech computer, fantastic decoration etc. Who would you choose to do business with? The second off course.

 

That’s the way people think about a website. When a website is a mess nobody will ever visit it

and especially nobody will ever buy from it. But with a nice and clean website you can make tons of money.

 

I have some tips to help you make your website look more professional and trustworthy but first you have to remember the golden rule for a successful online business: Learn to build your websites on your own! If you have no idea about html, web designing etc find a good how to guide and start learning. It will save you money and it will make you money. And after all every website you build on your own will have your personal signature. You know exactly what you want from your website and not even the best web designer in the world can do it better than you.

 

And now some tips:

-You must design a logo, a small picture based on your website’s main subject with your website’s or your company’s name on it and put it at the top of all your pages (top left of right corner).

 

-Your main menu is better to be horizontal and at the top under your logo. This way you help search engine bots to navigate better through your pages and have them all indexed. Also do not put more than 7 links to your main menu. It looks heavy and many people don’t like it. Try to put general links in the main menu such as Home, Contact Us etc and add submenus for more specific links like My Blog, Our Products etc.

 

-Do not fill your pages with ads. I know you want to make money but you don’t have to shout it to your visitors. It’s disgusting! Especially pop ups, pop-unders etc. Your visitors will hate you! The best thing you can do is

create a 468×60 table next to your logo or under your menu and use some banner rotation script. In this script you can ad the html code of as many banners as you want and have them shown on your web pages randomly one by one. For example if someone visits your Front page he can see banner1, when he goes to your FAQ page he can see banner2 etc.

 

-Try to keep your website simple and easy for all visitors. The 80% of the Internet users don’t know how to search and where to click on a website to find what they want. Your website must be easy for 10 years old children and for 70 years old men.

 

-Use formal language for your content. When someone enters your website is like entering you office. Imagine how you would talk to someone who came to your office for business and you want to make him buy and visit again and again and use exactly the same

words in your website!

 

-If you are selling something on your website become verified for all the payment methods you use for your transactions and put the verified logos in your website’s footer. When people see logos like Verified by Visa, PayPal verified etc they trust you and it’s more possible that they’ll buy.

 

-And the most important thing. Try to keep your website up to date. Search the web for everything new related with your website’s main subject and write about it using as many keywords as you can. Search engines love keywords!
