PHANTOM OF THE OPERA SEQUEL!! OUTRAGEOUS OR NOT???
Question by Faerie: PHANTOM OF THE OPERA SEQUEL!! OUTRAGEOUS OR NOT???
OK, who thinks that making a sequel to the Phantom of the Opera, the BEAUTIFUL London musical is outrageous and completely idiotic on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s part? What was he thinking? POTO should be left alone! The story’s not MEANT to carry on, it should remain a mystery! It’s going to be called “Phantom: Once Upon Another Time”. How cheesy is that? How could they do this?? How could they butcher a timeless, beautiful musical like that? A BOOK is even being written as sequel! How insulting is that to poor Mr. G. Leroux? AND, to add insult to injury, Mr. Webber wants Gerard Butler to be in the West End performance. NO THANKS!! That man does not BELONG on stage, I didn’t even think he was well suited for the movie, let alone a live production. His voice just isn’t…right.
Does anyone agree with me that the idea of making a sequel to go onstage in London/Broadway is absolutely insane? What about casting Mr. Butler onstage? You don’t have to agree with me on both counts. But does anyone else agree?
P.S. If it does truly come out in London, in November 2009 as planned, I’m not going to go see it.
YOU ARE SO RIGHT “SHE’S MY DARLING, I LOVE HER!!!” RIGHT ON!!!

I totally agree with you, doing a “sequel musical” is just plain stupid. 20 some years has went by, times change, inspirations change. Leave one the greatest musicals alone to be adored forever.
