I have a Sony Digital 8 handy-cam. I am unable to connect and record / transfer events thru DV ports over my PC (Windows XP and Vista also).Any software required to download / install to detect my handy-cam on the PC which will be suitable to record over Windows Movie Maker at least?
And, is it possible to make a HD recording in any case with any softwares available with this handy-cam?

Digital8 is not capable of HD video, period. If you want HD tape video you will have to migrate to HDV which is miniDV based. Windows Movie Maker should be able to import directly from your camcorder via ilink, it is no different than working with miniDV and requires no special drivers. the automatic detection of your camcorder might not be possible, turn the camera to play mode and WMM should be able to control it.
