What sorts of functionality do such user scripts typically add?

I don’t know enough to write my own scripts, I just tend to import other people’s.
These scripts, from what I know, tend to add one of two types of things:
1. Changes to the editing box, so that it looks different or there’s more buttons, etc;
2. More links to do things that would take longer manually, like fix vandalism/spelling, or move a page, or edit a particular subset of templates to a preset setting; or watch live changes to things on your watchlist.
But this is just what’s common, from what I’ve seen. Which is not much.
