Q&A: I need a simple .mpg editor that will let me select two points and cut out the selected part?
Question by Seeker2008: I need a simple .mpg editor that will let me select two points and cut out the selected part?
Do any of these still exist? It seems like it is looking for a needle in a haystack nowadays. These used to exist in abundance and there were so many programs that did this. They seem to have disappeared and/or have been replaced by complicated programs that do multiple things and make everything very confusing.
No doubt, I will likely get replies to this question with links to totally unrelated programs and also links to “audio/video editing” prorams, but those programs will not even work with .mpg files. However, the websites themselves lie about the product on a regular basis and of course they have spammers that they are paying to post the same lies all over the place.
It doens’t have to be a freeware program – if it’s a GOOD program and lets me choose x point and x point and delete the entire area that I’ve selected, it will work. Basically what I have is a 5GB .mpg file that I am trying to edit in order to keep the negative content of the away from my family. I prefer for my movies to be clean, even if real life usually isn’t most of the time. Can anyone suggest a program by name? I do not need a “link” as every one of those is going to be copied and pasted by a spammer.

avidemux can do it, its free open source,
http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/
and a ‘how to’ for .mpg (dvd vob) – but you need to transcode it
http://avidemux.org/admWiki/doku.php?id=tutorial:dvd_to_avi
or a file with the .mpg extension
click file and open
navigate to the file you want
click open
allow the indexing
move the slider along the bottom to where you want and click A (this is where the start is)
move the slider along the bottom to where you want and click B (this is where the end is)
all data before and after will be cut out
click save
to join 2 (or more) files just –
click file and open
navigate to the file you want
click open
allow the indexing
click file and open
click append to add a file to the end of the first
navigate to the file you want
click open
do this as many times as you need
click save
its the best i can do with just .mpg as there are different formats for it
