You can only get it to be about twice as fast. Place your mouse over the edge of the event like you were going to trim it but hit the alt key instead. This will allow you to stretch or compress the event or clip.

I’m pretty sure it’s the alt key but it could be the ctrl key or some combo of keys. It should be in the help for vegas.
