Q&A: Superheroic powers/hero’s destiny: A gift or a curse?
Question by Noah Calhoun: Superheroic powers/hero’s destiny: A gift or a curse?
You know how in some stories (comics, movies, etc.) the hero struggles with whether to accept his destiny as a hero, and also struggles with whether to look at his powers as a gift or a curse?
I’m in that dilemma right now. Kinda.
You see, I took the True Colors test and the MBTI. On the True Colors test, my colors turned out to be Blue (my strongest), Gold, Green, and Orange (my weakest color). On the MBTI, my result was INFP.
Blues like me value compassion, sympathy, rapport, love, loyalty, romance… We pride ourselves with empathy (according to the manual that came with it)…
That would probably explain why I’ve had these romantic leanings for the longest time now (ever since I can remember). See? I don’t JUST like Nicholas Sparks–it’s who I am! (This goes out to the guy who said that just because I like a movie or a book doesn’t make me a romantic–and that calling yourself a romantic makes women thing you’re BSing.) It’s in my blood, in my system! Can I say I’m not a romantic?
Now, my question is THIS: Now that I’ve discovered it’s who I am, should I consider it a gift or a curse?
I mean, romance is dying out in today’s society. Romantic men are either thought of as gay or creepy rapists or pedophiles. And women are shocked to find out there are some more romantic men out there (though we be few). With this kind of society, this kind of environment, that shuns love and romance, should I consider my being a romantic a gift or a curse?
People ridicule me, call me a liar, say I’m BSing, bully, me, threaten me, harass me, insult me, you name it!
The men say things like, “Hand over your ManCard.” The women are like, “He likes The Notebook? That’s surprising coming from a guy!”

Is it morning, afternoon or evening when this struggle started. It depends on that. Sue them all, who are doing like this.
