Question by parrothead: What are the top colleges for art?
My son is an incredible artist (drawing), and his passion is to go to art school and have a career in art. He is interested in making movies, or drawing comics, etc.
What are the top art schools in America?
He is only 13 right now, but it’s never too early to start the research. He would start applying for scholarships maybe in the 10th grade..?

re fantasy football: he is a pretty smart kid. He is 4.0 GPA to this point. His SAT scores are at 12+ grade level, so he’s smart enough to do much better paying jobs than art will pay (I am a graphic designer – web designer also)…but it is his passion to draw.
I have raised 2 kids as a single dad for 13 years – so we get plenty of dad-son time. (in fact, posting this question was part of our dad-son time)
He asked me to research finding the best art school..so I am letting him be the kid he wants to be.
I have kept them from advancing him beyond his class (to let him be a kid)
I prefer him to go to UNC (GO HEELS), but he informed me today that UNC wasnt the best art school 😉
I understand Jr. Colleges, but a major art school will look better on a resume’
He may have to do Jr. college to get started, but that’s not the goal. His goals are higher than that.
He attends a private school that will have him beyond 1st year Jr. College by that point.

CIA = California Institute of the Arts in Valencia California is one of the best and difficult to get into. You have to have a really REALLY good portfolio that exhibits your various talents.

Keep it up dad. Keep him going. I wish I had taken my chance and I was too afraid to. I had an opportunity for my own show as soon as I graduated from high school and I could have had a free ride to CIA since I was then just exiting foster care.
