the same quality as a professional quality camcorder? i notice it says it records in 24p cinema mode which would give a theater type film appearance, and im trying to make an independent movie on a low budget.. so that sounds appealing right now.

24 p is the format that will allow the cleanest transfer to theatrical film. The fly in this ointment is the MPEG2 compression of the video generates artifacts that will be more noticable on the Big Screen, and the compressed audio. The resolution of all HDV format tapes is only 1440 pixels in the 1080 mode, not the full 1920 pixels of HDTV. i expect that this camera will see use by a lot of inde producers, so you will be in good company.
