click on the Start menu, choose Run, and type “msconfig” in the box (no quotes). Click on the “Services” tab, and you will see a list of programs that are running. Leave most of them alone, but you can de-activate anything that you recognize and don’t use. For instance, Real Player, iTunes, and other media players love to run in the background because it lets them open quickly; they have a head start. Shutting those down will make your whole computer faster.
