“Step Up 3D” Movie Review

This time, the hip-hop fairy tale is back with an intriguing gimmick making the movie the first dance drama ever to be shot and released in digital 3D. As expected, the filmmakers stepped up the film’s look and dance numbers. Those are two great qualities to make any “Step Up” fan curious about the third movie even though the story and the script are relegated backstage. If Jennifer Beals’ “Flashdance” character, Alex Owens, was just beginning her dance career today, she would have a hard time competing with the “Step Up” kids. Nowadays, the popping and locking dance routines are meant for dancers with strong stamina and equally powerful equilibrium. According to the first two “Step Up” movies, dancing makes the people come together. The dancing gods do not care if you’re rich or poor. The third film is more about how a family that dances together stays together. The family in “Step Up 3D” is not bonded by blood but for their love of dancing. They call their home the House of Pirates headed by an aspiring filmmaker, Luke (Rick Malambri). This New York City group live, dance, and party together. Two previous “Step Up” actors return to help bring the new story to life. There’s the MSA student and talented street dancer Moose (Adam G. Sevani) and his best friend Camille (Alyson Stoner).
