Well, I’ve never made a movie myself, but I’ve watched alot of in-depth “Making-Of” documentaries. Well, you’ll want to go through Pre-Production. Getting the script locked down (although don’t think the script is totally set in stone, always be open to ideas from the actors and such, it will raise morale if they know you care about their ideas as well). Next you could storyboard so the other members of the crew are seeing your vision of the scene, think about any suggestions, make necessary changes, storyboards will show if the scene isn’t exactly what you expected. Then go through your script and pick out all the things you’ll need. Everything..extras, effects, locations actors, vehicles, stunts. Make sure you know every aspect of your film. Then think about actors/actresses. If you haven’t already got your cast, put up notices in stores, tell friends, etc. If you have multiple people for roles, hold an audition, see who best fits the role. Once you have all your cast members you should go for a Table Read. Gather up the whole crew and go through the script having the actors/actresses saying they’re lines, you can say the action. Make notes/changes during this time. Alot of times you can write lines that just sound wierd, just how the actor/actress speaks. So make these changes at this time. This should be a big moment, this is there it really should become “real”. Up until this point your work has just been words on a page, now its being brought to life by the person that will be playing the character. After you’ve done all this, all I can say is start shooting. Be open to suggestions. Never think your script is concrete. It’s just a blueprint, it can be changes as necessary.
