This is driving me batty! And I have already been on the Canon website and looked through the pdf of the manual, so that will not help me.
When I take video with my camera – which is a Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS (under it says Digital ELPH) it uses a ton of memory, making a long video impossible to email, post online or fit onto a dvd or cd.
If I set my camera on video and hit “function set”, at the very bottom it has the number 640 in a box. My options are:
640 – which above it says 640×480 30 fps
640LP – which above it says 640×480 30 fps LP
320 – which above it says 320×240 30 fps
This is all greek to me. What i need to know is this….when I shoot a video it uses a ridiculous amount of memory. My friend can shoot the same exact video with his camera and it uses unbelievably less. Example – for both of us to upload the same length video, his might take 5 minutes to get onto facebook or youtube and mine will take an hour or more – being in the same building with the same internet connection.
I just tried to make a video for a friend and I had to video it into 3 separate movies so that they would upload to my computer. Even then, just 3 short videos – one was 4 minutes, one was 2 minutes, and one was 3 minutes – and I had to put them all on separate cds because all 3 files would not fit onto one. Frustrating!
I assume that I can maybe change a setting and that will fix it? If so, will one of those settings give me a video saved with less memory space so that I can fit these onto cds or upload them faster??

The lowest setting is the 320. The resulting video should use less memory.
