Was making Watchmen into a movie a good idea?
Question by heyheysg: Was making Watchmen into a movie a good idea?
While the novel itself is a great work by itself, turning into a movie requires millions of dollars, against the idea that most people won’t ‘get’ postmodern deconstruction, especially something disguised as a popcorn superhero flick. Even the Mature ratings doesn’t limit itself to most people who have never read the original novel or even read books at all.
In the end, many are left disappointed and bewildered. And people hate anything they can’t understand. The studios may also lose money due to negative reviews.
This is opposed to a low budget art film, where the audience consists of people who seek out the art. Not people who have watched 300 and go to films for their main source entertainment.
