What does Hatton know……?
Question by dave: What does Hatton know……?
….that we don’t? Hatton quotation: “I’ve never been so confident in a victory in all of my life”
I wouldn’t really think much of a comment like this if it was made by any other boxer in the world BUT Hatton. Firstly, Hatton is not a trash talker, so i really can’t see him saying this to try and taunt Floyd. Secondly, Hatton is a humble guy and such a comment is completely out of character for him. Thirdly, I don’t think it was said to try and sell the event, for Hatton, what he believes, says and does in the ring comes before Money. When he said it is was as if he believed in it 100%, add to the fact what Billy Graham said on Mayweather-Hatton 24/7: “One Dimensional? let em think that, i hope they still think that on the night because they will be in for an almighty shock”. All this may be nothing and i might be looking into far too deeply, however something is telling me that what happens on Dec 8th will not have been in anybody’s script. Your thoughts? thanks.
Elmer- Fighters arn’t as money-minded here as they are in the States. He was sat in a chair and calmly said it, it was only broadcast on sky sports news once and henceforth wasn’t meant to be seen by everyone. Of course he wouldn’t say “i think im going to get beat”, he usually wouldnt say anything at all. Ricky Hatton doesn’t need to sell the fight to anyone, everyone in Britain with Sky will buy this fight regardless, purely because its Ricky hatton, a fellow countryman, that is fighting an American “hero” so to speak.
“You have no idea what kind of person Hatton is because all you see is what he does when there’s a camera in his face” Thats funny, i happen to live but a few miles from where Hatton trains and have seen him training many times over the years, when there was no news camera of journalist in sight. Hatton mingles with his fans, many others distant themselves from thiers. Please don’t assume the only method of knowing the personality of Ricky is by what has been presented to me by the media. Elmer seems to be the only one, (so far) narrow minded enough to think that such a profound statement was made purely to add more weight to his wallet.

Well, it wouldn’t do the promotion a whole lot of good if he says “i just hope I can make it all 12 rounds on my feet”.
What he’s saying is calculated to maximize pay-per-view buys and ticket sales to english fans that think he’s boxing’s jesus.

You need to come to the realization that there is a difference between a fighter’s public persona and the private individual. To assert that you somehow know how any celebrity truly is, is naive. The only thing real, and even that is sometime fixed, is what happens between the ropes. How many times have he had a perceived image of a celebrity, only to find out that they’re something altogether different. And that’s usually bad. Don’t believe the hype, and it’s all hype. You have no idea what kind of person Hatton is because all you see is what he does when there’s a camera in his face. Boxing is a business dude. And the fighters are taking on a persona that will best garner support from a fan base to earn more cash***
