Personally, I liked the scene where it was the anniversary of Susie’s death and everyone sort of banded together without any planning to commemorate her. This part of the book shows the realization that Susie is really gone now and isn’t ever coming back. It also shows her mother’s unwillingness to accept this by not attending, her friends emotions in the partaking of the ceremony etc..
