What’s the best software for creating movies on my PC?

Question by sirfunksalot: What’s the best software for creating movies on my PC?
Windows Movie Maker gives me max resolution of 320×240 (not enough) when I pull video off of my DV camera. Also, I want to make DVDs of my videos, I presume there’s a separate program I’ll need for that but – looking for overall guidance on this. Also important is audio fades.

Also, if Macs are just the way to go on this, waht software is best in that case?

Try ArcDVD. You can get a free trial at download.com
