i know for a fact the Dark Knight (batman) cost $ 185 million to make. i dont know if that includes the cost of paying everyone but after a movie makes more than the cost of making the film and paying all the workers, where does all the extra money go?

The production company and could also be spreaded across several other companies involved. The $ 185 Million is for the movie (with cast included, usually), though the advertising is not in that figure. So I would say with advertising, this has to be $ 200 Million +. The left over money goes into the production studios pockets for future films, etc.
