Why do people hate on rappers who are not hood?
Question by HIM!: Why do people hate on rappers who are not hood?
This is something that is really starting to annoy me, especially now with more rappers coming into the game that dont fit the stereotype of a rapper. Drake being one very good example. I rap myself, and consider myself very good with words, always have been. I come from a small rural town. Family is not rich, and has a lot of problems, but i am far from the hood lol. But i have been listening to rap literally since 2 years old. Its my passion. The way I dress, and the way I am is because of Hip Hop and what Iv learned from cousins and stuff. I am who I am,nothing more or less. My problem is how these people hate on a rapper who is not from the hood saying things like “leave rap for the hungry struggling niggas” or “rap is about the street and the struggle.” In my eyes, rap is poetry to a beat. Simple as that. Obviously the emotion and effort, and passion goes far beyond that into something that your average person cant understand. But the basics is poetry to a beat and melody. My thing is,if you want rap to stay in the “STREETS” thats fine, but how about you cant buy a hip hop record, and hip hop clothing,or movie, etc unless you are from the streets. That would mean Hip Hop wouldnt even come close to making the money it currently makes. Your average buyer of a rap cd is suburban white teenager, usually female. I wonder how many people would persue a rap career if there was hardly any money or fame in it. If I can buy your music and put money in your pocket. And you respect me as a fan, then why cant i join the game. Basketball was made for white people but look at it now, same for other sports. Woman use to not be able to vote, should we keep it that way. This must be something with the human brain because its so prevalent. I feel bad for someone like drake who is passionate about music, knows the history, and respects it and gets hated on.When people like solja boy, new boyz, etc, who i respect for following a dream, dont get much hate when they dont have much talent as far as lyrics. It seems like as long as you can rep the street, you are ok. Even suburban white kids sometimes thing certain rappers are corny if they dont rap about guns or street stuff, when in reality they would shit their pants even hearing a gun shot..Any one get annoyed at this to?
hey first guy..dont answer the question if your not going to read. And its not a rant, its my opinion you dick. Also,if rap started in the gang culture, than why did none of the early rappers talk about that kind of stuff? Once in a while maybe, but gangsta rap did not start until the late 80s when rap has been around since the 70s. Also to,Hip Hop is a culture, about coming together to express yourself, not brag about how hoes you ran train on,or how many people you have killed or sold drugs to. Because the fact is,that only glorifies it. Makes people want to ride around and shoot people while listening to certain songs. Rapping about shooting is so far from revealing the problem. It makes people more violent and to think otherwise is idiotic

I couldn’t be bothered reading all of your rant, but people think like that because that is what rap is all about. It has deep origins within gang culture and people aren’t that open to change.
