Question by 1981bendover: Why does the Independent Film Channel show movies that aren’t independent films?
I’m beginning to think that the Independent Film Channel, or IFC, doesn’t know what independent films are. Tomorrow night, they are showing Basic Instinct, which cost $ 40 million dollars to make, and Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back, which cost $ 22 million to make. When I think Independent Film, I think movies that cost a couple million dollars or less.

An independent film is basically just a film that isn’t financed by one of the big six studios (currently: Time Warner [Warner Bros.], News Corp [Fox], Disney [Disney], Sony [Columbia], Viacom [Paramount], Comcast[Universal]). Budget doesn’t really matter.
