Why Don’t They Make Movies Like They Used To?
Where are the movie stars? Don’t get me wrong, I think Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts are great actors and terrific celebrities but movie stars? Clark Gable, Jimmy Stewart, Cary Grant, Carole Lombard, Jean Harlow, now those were movie stars. Gone are the days when the movies and their personalities were bigger than life. The demand for realism has robbed moviegoers of it’s truly magic kingdom. Movies nowadays more often than not prevent the viewer his or her escape from reality. Yes, we know good doesn’t always seemingly beat out evil, we know the lovers don’t always live happily ever after, and wrong doesn’t always seemingly go punished…but why can’t it be that way in a medium that we control? Why can’t we present things the way they should be? In the golden age of cinema there were morality codes that listed what could and could not be shown in a motion
