Windows Movie Maker vs. Other Movie Making Software – Any Suggestions?
Question by Lori: Windows Movie Maker vs. Other Movie Making Software – Any Suggestions?
Hi:
My twins are 9 years old and love using Windows Movie Maker on my Vista machine. However, sometimes certain .mp3 files will not work and it does not support .mp4.
Can anyone suggest another comparable (similar features) and affordable movie making software that supports a wide range of media formats?
Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks, Lori

Hi,
Windows movie maker sucks, bigtime! I’m sure it’s fine for nine year olds but if they are really interested in making their own films then as they get older they are going to realize this.
I use Corel/Ulead Video Studio. It’s fairly simple to use (similar to movie maker), supports many different formats and has a whole lot more features (cool filters/transitions etc) than WMM. I think the newest versions retail online for about $ 79, but I know that here in the UK a slightly older version can be bought from PC World for £19.99 or £29.99 bundled with an animation program. I’m sure similar deals are probably available wherever you are.
There is also a program called AVS video editor, which is available to download online. There is a completely free version available that has all the features of the paid version but it puts a watermark on any videos you make with it (ie; somewhere on the screen will appear some text that says ‘made with AVS video editor’ or similar). However as the kids are only nine and using it for fun I don’t think this should be too much of a problem.
Hope this helps.
